Supplementary notes

Until June 30, 2007, there was a standard rate benefit in East Germany of 331 euros per month. From July 2007, the amount of money given out was the same in East and West Germany.

The figures for 2012 were taken from the Hamburger Abendblatt on August 15, 2012. The figures for 2013 to 2021 were taken from the website of the Federal Employment Agency (including the leaflet SGB II at different times).

* Payments preceding 2023 were from the scheme often referred to as Hartz IV, but since 2023 the scheme has been officially changed to Bürgergeld.
