In 2018, 271,678 private sector businesses in Canada were majority owned by women, which is approximately 100,000 more than in 2005. On the other hand, while the number of companies mainly owned by women has indeed increased in recent years, the increase in terms of proportion is not as great: there has been an increase of only two percentage points in the share of companies owned by women between 2005 and 2018.
