Largest central banks in Europe 2022, by total assets
The central bank of Germany, Deutsche Bundesbank, stood as the largest central bank in Europe in 2022. Its total assets exceeded 2.9 trillion euros by the year-end. Bank of France secured the second position, with total assets worth roughly 1.9 trillion euros. Following were the Bank of Italy and the Bank of England, with 1.47 trillion and 1.22 trillion euros on their balance sheets, respectively. On a global scale, only the Deutsche Bundesbank ranked among the five largest central banks, with the Federal Reserve System reporting the largest assets in 2022.
