Louvre: daily visitors 2007-2023

In 2023, the average daily number of visitors to the Louvre Museum in Paris increased significantly compared to the previous year. On average, the Louvre - the most visited museum worldwide - welcomed roughly 28.7 thousand visitors per opening day in 2023. This figure, however, remained below the average daily attendance reported in 2019, the year before the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Since June 2022, the popular institution has decided to cap the number of daily admissions at 30 thousand.

For the purpose of this statistic, the average daily number of visitors has been calculated by dividing the Louvre's annual attendance by the number of opening days.

The number of opening days was set at a constant figure of 310 days (and 311 days for leap years) based on the usual number of opening days indicated in the museums' press releases for 2020 and 2021. As indicated by these press releases, the Louvre was open for 161 days in 2020 and 194 days in 2021 due to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, so these figures have been used in those specific cases.

Figures for total attendance from 2012 to 2023 have been retrieved from the Louvre Museum and the Theme and Museum index reports. Data prior to 2012 came from articles published by The Art Newspaper.
