As of August 2023, 29 percent of Indians answered that Amit Shah was the best suited candidate to replace Narendra Modi as Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime minister candidate. Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, was also considered among the leading candidates to replace Narendra Modi's position in the political party.
