Enterococcus faecium is a bacteria present in the microbiota of the human gastrointestinal tract that in some cases can cause bloodstream infections, endocarditis, and peritonitis. As of 2021, roughly 17 percent of E. faecium in EU and EEA countries was resistant to vancomycin.
