European perspectives on how to tackle antimicrobial resistance as of 2022
Antibiotics are medications that can kill or hinder the growth of bacteria which can cause infections in people and animals. Antibiotic resistance occurs when there is a mutation in the bacteria's genes, a natural process that can be accelerated with the misuse or excessive use of antibiotics. In 2022, a survey on the topic of resistance to antibiotics, revealed that 30 percent of respondents in the EU believed that antibiotic resistance should be tackled at a global level, whereas 21 percent of people believed that antibiotic resistance should be tackled at the individual level or within the family. This statistic displays responses of individuals when asked at what level they believe it is most effective to tackle resistance to antibiotics in EU27 as of 2022.
