Global energy sector methane emissions 2000-2022, by fuel type

In 2022, the global energy sector emitted approximately 133 million metric tons of methane (CH₄). Oil and gas operations accounted for more than half of this total. Since 2000, global energy sector CH₄ emissions have increased by nearly 34 percent.
