Perception of light punishments for drug crimes in South Korea 2022
According to a survey conducted in South Korea in late 2022, around 88 percent of respondents stated that they believed that punishments for drug-related crimes were little more than a slap on the wrist. Under current domestic law, drug crimes can be punished with a one year to life imprisonment or a fine of under 100 million South Korean won. Probation is also frequently utilized, especially for first-time offenses.
