Premature deaths related to air pollution in Malta 2021, by pollutant
In 2021, exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) above the WHO AQ health limit was attributable to nearly 200 premature deaths in Malta. Meanwhile, exposure to ozone (O₃) and nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) combined led to an additional 40 premature deaths in the Mediterranean country that year. Fine particulate matter is amongst the most fatal air pollutants worldwide.
