Spain: distribution of EV chargers by area type and purpose of use Q1 2023

As of the first quarter of 2023, most chargers in Spain were located in areas consumers would use for reasons other than recharging their vehicles, defined here as slow use. The share of on-street and service area chargers was the highest in rural areas, reaching 42 percent.

Fast-use chargers include chargers at service areas and on-street chargers located along public roads. 

Slow-use chargers include locations where consumers recharge their vehicle as part of a trip or activities with a purpose other than making use of the charger, such as in car parks, shops, industrial areas, workshops and dealerships, public facilities, official centers and transport infrastructures (ports, airports, train or bus stations,...).
