Spain’s stock of electric vehicles has experienced a significant growth in the past years. While in 2017 the Spanish electric fleet stood at slightly over 13,000, the Mediterranean country clocked up over 109,800 units of this type of vehicle by 2022, most of them being passenger cars. With billions using vehicles around the world for their commutes, increasing the number of electric cars would help limit the CO2 emissions to the atmosphere to ultimately curb global warming.
Europe – paving the road for a new era
Despite the great increase in the use of electric vehicles in Spain, the share of electric passenger cars sold relative to fuel-powered vehicles is almost negligible, at 3.76 percent of all passenger car sales in 2022. In this regard, Norway topped the list of new battery-powered cars with around 79.33 percent of passenger car sales in the country, followed by a large margin by the Sweden at 32.99 percent of car sales. Europe is preparing its infrastructure to accommodate the new transportation trends, with nearly 375,900 electric vehicle charging stations across the continent in 2021, up from only 3,200 in 2010.
The electric car global race
China and the United States lead the race of electric car manufacture in the world. Germany, Europe’s indisputable car manufacturer, ranks as the leading producer of plug-in cars on the Old Continent. Also, German cars appear on the list of most expensive passenger cars based on 2020 data.
