Familial consent to organ donation in South Korea 2023
According to a survey conducted in South Korea in 2023, around 72 percent of respondents stated that if a family member wished to donate organs upon being declared brain-dead, they would allow this to happen. In South Korea, the bereaved family can block organ donations even if the patient wanted to donate. It is also possible for the family to consent to organ donation as long as the patient had not previously explicitly refused to donate. However, the willingness to do so in this case was lower, at 58 percent.
