According to a recent study, the share of renewables in Latin America's total energy supply will increase by only two percentage points between 2021 and 2050 in a scenario based on the historic trajectory of the region's energy sector. Meanwhile, if additional measures are taken to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the share of renewables in energy supply is forecast to climb to roughly 58 percent.
