Between 1995 and 2022, a movie based on comics or graphic novels grossed, on average, about 97.3 million U.S. dollars across the United States and Canada – collectively known as the North American box office. Spin-offs followed as the second-most commercially successful film source material, with average box office revenue of around 95.7 million dollars. The annual box office revenue in the U.S and Canada declined by over 60 percent between 2018 and 2021.
