Forecast for India's vehicle production
Worldwide vehicle production is expected to grow from around 80 million units in 2012 to about 97 million units in 2017. Within the global automobile market, India is one of the fastest growing regions with around 18 million motor vehicles in use, and with a population of some 1.24 billion people, the country has a large potential for market growth. A little over three million vehicle units were produced in India in 2013. This number is expected to almost double to about 5.13 million units by 2017.
Maruti Suzuki is India's leading automobile manufacturer. The company is headquartered in New Delhi with dealerships in over 650 cities and towns across India. The company generated about 7.2 billion U.S. dollars in revenue in 2013. Export volumes of Indian-made vehicles are also on the rise, with the United States and Italy being some of their largest export destinations. Hyundai Motor India Limited now has a substantial fleet of exports that originate from production plants in India. Here, Hyundai has two manufacturing plants that are able to produce 630,000 vehicle units every year.
