Opinion of U.S. citizens on the death penalty 1936-2022
The share of Americans in favor of the favor of the death penalty for someone convicted of murder has declined since 1991. In 2022, around 55 percent of surveyed respondents supported the death penalty for someone convicted of murder. In 1991, more than three-quarters of Americans, 76 percent, were in favor of the death penalty.
