A total of 261 million units of PCs are expected to be shipped worldwide in 2016, a decrease from the 2011 peak of 364 million unit shipments. Total PC shipment experienced a negative growth of 2.5 percent during 2015. Of global PC shipments in 2015, 113.2 million were desktop PCs and 162.6 million were portable PCs.
In the fourth quarter of 2015, Lenovo was the market leader of PC vendors with a share of 15.4 percent of all PC shipments worldwide. This amounted to approximately 15.4 million shipments of all PCs, an increase from the 9 million units that the Beijing-based company shipped at the beginning of 2011. Hewlett-Packard was the second largest PC vendor in the fourth quarter of 2015, shipping over 14.2 million units, amounting to a market share of 18.8 percent. Although it has fallen behind Lenovo in the global market in recent years, HP remains the largest PC vendor in the United States, with a 28.1 percent of US shipments in the fourth quarter of 2015, shipping a total of 4.9 million units. The third largest worldwide vendor of PCs is Dell, which held a market share of just over 14 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014 and shipped a total of 39 million units worldwide in 2015.
