This graph shows the average share of discretionary income given to charity in each state in the United States, as well as the corresponding political affiliation of each state's voters. According to the results of the 2012 election, of the top ten states whose residents gave the largest amount of their discretionary income to charity, eight went to John McCain-- the other two (Georgia and South Carolina) supported Barack Obama. Of the ten lowest-ranking states, eight voted for Barack Obama, and only North Dakota went to John McCain.
