United Kingdom (UK): Youth unemployment rate (16-17 year-olds) 2000-2017, by gender This statistic shows the monthly unemployment rate as a percentage of the total workforce, by gender, for the ages 16 to 17 in the United Kingdom (UK) from 2000 to 2017. Such unemployment peaked in 2011 at 41.8 percent for males and 34.4 for females. Overall unemployment rate for male youths increased by 26 percent during that time, with unemployment rate for female youths increasing by 4.3 percent. These findings were also reflected in a different survey on youth unemployment of those between the ages of 18 to 24. In the last 16 years, youth unemployment for that age group had risen by roughly 10 percent.
