United Kingdom (UK): Number of excess winter deaths in England & Wales 2000-2018 This table shows the number of excess winter deaths in England and Wales and the corresponding temperatures in degrees Celsius from winter 2000/01 to winter 2017/18. The highest number of excess winter deaths in this period occurred in the winter of 2017/18 with over 50 thousand deaths. This occurred with an average temperature of 4.3 degrees Celsius. In contrast, the lowest number of excess deaths was the winter of 2013/14, with over 17 thousand deaths and an average temperature of 6.2 degrees Celsius.
