This statistic shows the worldwide sales volume for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) medication from 2008 to 2012, by drug type. In 2010, fixed-dose combination drugs accounted for 27% and plain active ingredient drugs accounted for 73% of the HIV medication volume sold. In 2013, about 34 million people around the world were suffering from HIV but due to advances in medication, it is considered a manageable chronic condition. Although, antiretroviral therapy has made living with HIV much more manageable, there are many in the developing world that still have no access to sufficient medical treatment.
