Number of cannabis seizures in England and Wales (UK) 2006-2019

In 2018/19 the police and border forces of England and Wales made over 108 thousand seizures of cannabis, with the police making the vast majority of these seizures. Since peaking at over 186 thousand seizure in 2008/09 the number of cannabis seizures has steadily decline, with 2017/18 having just 98 thousand, the lowest in this provided time period.

Cannabis was reclassified from a Class B to a Class C drug in January 2004, and then classified back as a Class B drug on 26 January 2009. For consistency, cannabis is listed under Class B for the entire time series shown.
Includes seizures made by British Transport Police (BTP).
In 2013/14 Gwent could only supply data for a 10 month period. Data for Gwent in this table has been imputed to cover the full 12 months of 2013/14.
In 2014/15 Bedfordshire and Hampshire were unable to supply reliable estimates. Imputation methods have been used to estimate the 2014/15 data for these forces.
In 2015/16 Bedfordshire, Dorset, Essex and Leicestershire were unable to supply reliable estimates. Imputation methods, based on police recorded crime, have been used to estimate the 2015/16 data for these forces.
In 2016/17 and 2017/18 Kent were unable to supply reliable estimates. Imputation methods have been used to estimate that data for this force.
