This statistic shows the distribution of heavy goods vehicles according to the number of axles in the United Kingdom between 2010/2011 and 2012/2013. In spite of being the most common form of the vehicle, the number of licensed HGVs with 2-axles fell by over 20,000 over this period. At the same time, the number of 3-axle heavy goods vehicles increased slightly.

These figures came from the governmental VOSA annual tests. The source states: There is a discrepancy between vehicles registered and those presented for annual test as newly registered vehicles do not need to be tested for 12 months. As a result the numbers registered will always be higher than those tested.
