Gross electricity production from renewable municipal waste in the EU-28 2017-2018
Germany's and the United Kingdom's gross electricity production from municipal waste in electricity-only plants has increased in 2018 compared to 2017. These were the two major producers of electricity from waste in Europe. In 2018, Germany produced 3,794 gigawatt hours of gross electricity while the UK produced 2,110 gigawatt hours. All other leading countries decreased their production in 2018 compared to the previous year. Overall, in 2018 the European Union produced roughly 9,993 metric kilotons of oil equivalent worth of primary energy from renewabe municipal waste.
