Cosmetic market share in the Netherlands 2011-2018, by segment The cosmetics market in the Netherlands is divided in ten categories, from fragrances and bath products to skin, hair and oral care products. In 2018, the largest product category was the fragrances segment, with a market share of just over 19 percent. Skin care and decorative cosmetics were two other important segments, holding shares of 17.9 and 15.8 percent respectively. The total cosmetics market was valued at roughly 2.4 billion euros that year.
 Development skin care products market

Although still having one of the largest market shares, the turnover of skin care products sales decreased nearly year on year between 2012 and 2018. The turnover peaked in 2012, at nearly 464 million euros. By 2018, the revenue had fallen to less than 440 million euros.

Similar developments visible in other segments

Other segments experienced a similar drop in turnover. Between 2012 and 2018, the value of fragrance sales decreased from over 470 million euros to 468 million euros, while the turnover of hair care products also fell by nearly 30 million euros in the same period. A positive development however was visible in sunscreen products sales: while turnover in many other segments decreased, turnover of sunscreen products grew by four million euros.
