(in million euros)
Turnover of pharmaceutical markets in Central and Eastern Europe 2017
Poland was by far the leading pharmaceutical market in Central and Eastern Europe in 2017, with a turnover of over 6.1 billion euros. With a pharmaceutical market turnover of 2.75 billion euros in this year, Romania was ranked second. Additionally, Czechia and Hungary both had turnovers of around 2.3 billion euros.

Still far behind the Western European powerhouses

Germany’s pharmaceutical market had a turnover of over 40 billion euros in 2017, the largest in Europe for that year. France and Italy had turnovers of 29 billion and 26 billion euros respectively. Poland’s turnover was still enough to place it at sixth highest of Europe.

Polish pharmaceutical trade

The value of Polish pharmaceutical exports has significantly increased in recent years. In 2008, the export value of pharmaceutical products stood at approximately 1.1 billion euros, but by 2017 it came to almost four billion euros. In 2018, the value of pharmaceutical products imported into Poland was worth approximately 5.6 billion euros. Although this has also increased, it has not done so at a such a quick rate as the export value.
