In addition, the number of practicing nurses came to over 60 thousand in 2018, an increase of roughly fifteen thousand nurses since 2000.

In every year since 2009, Austria has spent over ten percent of its GDP on healthcare. In 2019, Austria’s expenditure on healthcare was 10.4 percent of GDP. In comparison to other European countries this placed Austria sixth-highest in terms of health expenditure in 2019. Top of the list was Switzerland, which spent 12.1 percent of GDP on healthcare in this year.
