About 73 percent of the population in Argentina is forecast to use a mobile phone by 2019. This means the number of mobile phone users in Argentina is projected to grow from 30 million in 2014 to nearly 33 million in 2019. The use of mobile internet is also forecast to increase in the coming years. The mobile phone internet user penetration rate in Argentina has passed the 50 percent mark for the first time in 2015, as nearly 55 percent of mobile users accessed the internet through their mobile devices that year. This rate is projected to jump to 75 percent in 2019, showing a promising and growing market for mobile/wireless service providers in the country.

As of 2015, there were three major players in the mobile service provider market in Argentina: Claro, Personal and Movistar. Each one of these companies held about one third of the market share in 2015. Claro is a subsidiary of the Mexican telecommunication group América Móvil, and has a strong presence in Latin America. Personal is the mobile brand of the Telecom Group in Argentina. Valued at more than one billion U.S. dollars, Personal is the second most valuable brand in the country. Lastly, Movistar is a mobile operator brand which belongs to the Spanish telecom giant Telefónica. The Movistar mobile phone brand, ranked sixth in the most valuable telecom brand in the world list in 2015, is mainly operated by Telefónica throughout Latin America.
