Top 10 reasons for hospital stays in Canada in 2022/23

In 2022/23, the top reason for hospital stays in Canada was to give birth. With 340,348 number of inpatient hospitalizations, giving birth is by far the most common reason for hospitalization. The second most common diagnosis that year was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchitis. COVID-19 is still in the top ten list, but moved down to number seven, compared to number two in 2021/22.
