Canada's greenhouse gas emissions: volume by gas type 2017

This statistic provides the total volume of greenhouse gas emissions released in Canada in 2017, based on greenhouse gas type. During this year, some 571 million metric tons of carbon dioxide was emitted. Despite accounting for only a small volume of the total emitted greenhouse gas emissions, methane is capable of absorbing up to 100 times more heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide over a five year period.
