The global capture capacity of commercial carbon capture and storage (CCS) facilities in operation totaled 49 million metric tons (Mtpa) as of July 2023. In recent years, many countries have increased efforts to develop new carbon dioxide capturing techniques in order to lower greenhouse gas emissions. There are more than 40 operational large-scale CSS facilities worldwide.
