On average, refineries greenhouse gas emissions in the United States are highest from refineries, at 1.15 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent in 2020. This was followed by power plants facilities, which emitted an average of 1.22 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per reporter. A total of 1.49 billion metric tons of CO2 equivalent were produced by 1,339 U.S. power plant facilities in 2020.
