Electric power sector emissions in the U.S. are surpassed only by transportation sector emissions.
Vistra Energy is the largest carbon dioxide emitter among the 100 largest power producers in the United States.
Vistra Energy almost 105 million tons of carbon dioxide (MTCO₂) into the atmosphere in 2020. The second largest emitter was Duke Energy, which produced 83 MTCO₂. The majority of leading power producers in the U.S. experienced a reduction in emissions in 2020 compared to the previous year.
