Organic fair trade coffee: sales share Germany

This statistic shows the share of organic coffee in the sales volume of certified fair trade coffee in Germany in selected years from 1999 to 2022. In 2022, around 72 percent of all fair trade coffee sold in Germany came from organic production. The peak was recorded in 2012 at 78 percent.

The fair trade certificate proves that the respective product has been fairly traded. Fair trade is a form of controlled trade designed to address power imbalances in international trading as well as fluctuating market prices. For example, a price floor is set to ensure a specified price for the producers and producers are paid a premium on top for communal investments. Furthermore, production methods are subject to international ecological and social standards.
