Antibiotics are medications that can kill or hinder the growth of bacteria which cause infections in people and animals. Antibiotics are not used to treat viruses. Between 2021 and 2022, 23 percent of Italians answered incorrectly when asked if using antibiotics was often causing side-effects such as diarrhea.
