Central government expenditure in Sweden 2007-2017 The expenditures of the central government in Sweden generally increased over the period, with two peaks in 2009 and 2013. The highest expenditure was in 2017 and was 939.6 billion Swedish kronor. During the same year, the central government revenue reached around one trillion Swedish kronor, which was a slightly lower sum than the previous year.
40 percent of public expenditure spent on social protection

      The largest share of the public expenditure in 2017 was spent on social protection, which composed 40 percent of the total public expenditure in Sweden during that year. The social protection covers pensions, unemployment benefits, subventions in health- and childcare among other important functions.    

Fluctuating expenses for the EU budget

    Among the expenses for the central government in Sweden is the contribution to the European Union budget. These expenses fluctuated over the years, with a peak in 2015, when it amounted to over 44 million Swedish kronor. In 2017, these expenses were 24 million Swedish kronor.
