After having increased steadily since 2013, the total revenue of the hotel industry in Italy declined sharply in 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. That year, hotels and similar accommodation establishments generated roughly 9.7 billion euros, experiencing a 54 percent drop in revenue compared to 2019.
