The average daily rate of hotels in Geneva, Switzerland was 242.9 euros in 2017. This was higher than Paris, Zurich and London. Although most rates were forecast to increase in 2019, Zurich and London were two the exceptions, with hotel rates expected to decline. London and Paris rank as the two most visited European city tourism destinations.
Average daily rate and other hotel KPIs
The average daily rate (often referred to as ADR) is one of the main key performance measures used in the hotel industry. It is calculated by dividing the revenue earned from the rental of rooms by the number of rooms sold. Although an important key performance indicator (KPI), comparing with occupancy rates and revenue per available room (also known as RevPar), gives a fuller picture of a market’s performance.
Higher room rates, but lower occupancy for Swiss cities
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Swiss cities have some of the highest hotel rates in Europe, although this is in part down to Switzerland’s economic situation. Although occupancy rates are still relatively high in Zurich and Geneva, London and Amsterdam had the highest occupancy rates of the main European destinations analyzed. The two Swiss cities earned the highest revenue per available room, with Geneva on par with Paris.
