Expenditure on outbound tourism the Netherlands 2010-2018
As of 2018, expenditure on outbound tourism in the Netherlands peaked at a total of approximately 17 billion euros. This is the highest expenditure between 2010 and 2018. The lowest value was seen in 2010 with 12.21 billion euros. Regarding the holiday expenditure, the total spending amounted to approximately 17 billion euros in 2018. Expenditure was highest on hotel, motel or hostel accommodations with roughly 8.8 billion euros, whereas 1.83 billion euros was spent on bungalow parks.
Increase in outbound tourism in 2018
The number of outbound holidays from the Netherlands fluctuated between roughly 17 and 22 million holidays within the period of 2005 and 2018. As of 2018, the volume of outbound holidays rose to 22 million, which is together with 2017 the highest volume in the period considered. The number of holidays abroad in group accommodations, grew slightly from 163,000 holidays in 2015 to 172,000 in 2016.
France received most Dutch overnight visitors
France received the most Dutch long-haul overnight tourists. Approximately 30 million nights were spent in France in 2016, whereas tourists from the Netherlands spent roughly 26 and 17 overnight stays in Spain and Germany, respectively.
