Bauxite imports by Italy 2006-2020
In 2020, the bauxite import volume of Italy dropped to 24,700, a year-on-year dip of 36 percent. This import volume fell drastically in 2009 to just 1.5 percent of the 2008 import volume. This is a result of the global economic downturn, which led to a drop in demand for aluminum and the subsequent closure of Eurallumina, Italy's major bauxite to alumina processor. Since then, imports of bauxite to Italy have remained low and have varied from year to year, ranging from a figure of 31,700 metric tons in 2013 to 65,200 metric tons in 2018.
