In 2015, the age group 35 to 44 years old were represented the most in hiking for leisure purposes with 71 percent. The age group 13 to 17 and 18 to 24 is less represented in hiking for leisure purposes with 41 and 46 percent. Hiking for sport purposes were dominated by both age groups 45 to 54 and 55 to 64 years old, but less by the younger age groups.
When looking at hiking in the Netherlands, there is a big event for hikers called the Four Day Marches of Nijmegen. It is an event where people walk 50 kilometers for four consecutive days.
