Number of unsentenced inmates in prisons in the U.S. 2000-2022
In 2022, 22,600 inmates in federal and state prisons in the United States had not been sentenced. While this is a decrease from 2000, when 27,131 prisoners were unsentenced, it is a slight increase from the previous year, when 21,100 prisoners in the U.S. were unsentenced.
