Average expenditure on eating out in the Netherlands 2016, by age
Looking at the percentage that dine outdoors at least once a week, a slight increase from 2009 to 2016 can be seen. Where in 2009 roughly 15 percent mentioned to dine outdoors, in 2016 this was roughly 20 percent. The increase in dining out reflects the increasing revenue index of the restaurant industry. In the first quarter of 2015, the revenue index was 84.6.4 (index 2015=100). In the same quarter in 2019, this index was 108.6, indicating an increase in revenue of roughly 20 percent.
