Tesla is sold an estimated 190,000 plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) in the United States in 2019, over 160,000 more than second-ranked General Motors.

Is Tesla facing a bumpy ride?

The total number of PEVs sold in the United States exceeded 358,000 in 2018, but forecasts suggest that figure could rise to an estimated 1.2 million in 2025. Tesla has dominated the electric vehicle market in the United States for several years and sold around seven times as many vehicles as its closest competitor in 2019. However, competition within the market is set to increase over the next few years as manufacturers invest more in the industry and produce a wider range of vehicles to satisfy customer demand.
