Fixed broadband market share in Spain in 2021, by provider

In 2021, Movistar was the Spanish telecommunications provider with the highest fixed broadband market share in the country, totaling 42.73 percent. Orange ranked second, accounting for a market share worth 26.72 percent

Fixed broadband connections

Fixed broadband internet coverage in Spain is almost uniform, with 95 percent of households having access to this type of internet. The most common type of fixed broadband connection in the country is Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH), which increased from 4.25 million connections in August 2016 to over 12 million as of August 2021. Moreover, fixed broadband internet with a connection speed of over 20 Mbs accounted for almost 90 percent of the country’s fixed broadband lines.

Movistar

Movistar is one of the most important telecommunication providers owned by Telefonica. It is the biggest telco operator in Spain - with more than 18 thousand employees as of 2019 - as well as an important player in Hispanic America’s telco sector since 2005. Over the last six years, Movistar has had the highest number of broadband connections in Spain, totaling 5.8 million as of July 2021. At the same time, Moviestar’s fixed broadband services generated income worth nearly 1.9 billion euros in 2020, remaining the highest-grossing telco company in Spain.
