Monthly power generation in China 1998-2024
China's total electricity output in January and February 2024 was about 1,487 terawatt-hours. Since 1998, the volume of monthly power generation had increased six-fold. This increase was necessary to fuel China's economic rise and satisfy the demands of the higher standard of living. From the graph, it became also apparent that not only the monthly output increased but also the extent of seasonal fluctuations grew. Around the year 2008 and 2009, there was a small dip in power generation. This was the result of the world financial crises when global demand decreased and impacted the Chinese manufacturing sector.
