Electricity capacity in the European Union 2018, by generation type

Combustible fuels have the greatest installed capacity of any energy generation type in the European Union. As of 2018, some 463.5 gigawatts of coal and gas plants were installed across the Union. By comparison, renewable capacity reached 452.8 gigawatts that year. Of renewables, hydro energy contributed the greatest share toward gross electricity generation.
