Italy: housing affordability index 2017, by region This statistic presents the housing affordability index among households in Italy in 2017, broken down by region. The affordability index is calculated based on interest rate, housing prices and disposable income. A positive affordability index means that the average Italian family in that particular region was able to purchase a house at the market average price. In 2017, only roughly 7.5 percent of the households in Lazio and Liguria were able to purchase a home in their respective regions. By contrast, the percentage of households able to purchase a home was highest in Molise (19.5 percent).
