According to data, the level of emissions increased constantly up to 2000, when it peaked at 21,887 gigagrams of carbon dioxide equivalent. From then on, the level of emissions produced by the waste sector gradually decreased reaching a value of 18,249 gigagrams of carbon dioxide equivalent as of 2017.
